We are the Lady Hammerheads, an up-and-coming women’s rugby team based in the Naples area. Fueled by passion, teamwork, and a love for the game, we’re here to make our mark on the rugby scene. Whether it's charging through tackles or building camaraderie on and off the field, we bring strength, determination, and unity to every match. As a growing team, we welcome players of all skill levels who are ready to take on new challenges and have some serious fun. Join us as we dive into the world of rugby, one fierce match at a time!

Interested in playing rugby? We practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Estero at 6:30pm. We are more than just a rugby team. Our goal is to be community involved and all around a social team that loves to play rugby! No rugby experience necessary! 🤩🤝🏉

For the next three weeks we will be practicing on Tuesdays at 6:30pm behind the baseball fields at Estero High School off of Williams rd and Thursdays at 6pm at Riverside Park in Bonita. Big thanks to @crunchbonitasprings for having us today. We were here to find fun, outgoing girls who’d like to add more comradery to their lives. Come out to practice and see how you’re not just joining a fun team, but a great community as well. 🙌🏼🤩

We are far from mean girls but since our first practice is on OCTOBER 3RD - we thought it would be fun to wear pink!!! If you don’t have pink, you can still sit with us 😁 We will go over our goals, events and any questions you may have at the start of our first practice at 6pm!! Looking forward to seeing everyone there! 🩷

If you don’t know Dana, she is an absolute beast on the pitch! Dana began playing rugby on complete accident. She was in college on a Div. 1 Lacrosse Scholarship and dating a guy on the Norfolk Blues Rugby Team. She was at a tournament in Raleigh, NC watching him play—being the supportive girlfriend and looking forward to the social afterwards. Her college team (ODU) was also there but she did not know any of them at the time; however, they apparently knew her from having watched her play lacrosse. Long story short, they had multiple injuries and were going to have to forfeit their remaining games if they didn’t find a player. Their captain approached her and begged to fill in. Dana immediately declined telling her, “I’m not getting my ass beat up!” Granted, she had watched the game many times but was clueless on how to play it. She continued to tell her, “With your speed, they won’t catch you!” Within 2 minutes of the game, they passed her the ball and Dana sprinted like she was running from a burning building— and scored her first Try! The exhilaration and positive response from my teammates and the men’s team watching was the beginning of my rugby playing journey that has not yet come to an end. Dana had the opportunity to play all over the world and even after having 2 kids, she had made the USA Women’s Roster. Now after years later, Dana and her daughter Ava both play alongside and is the most incredible yet nerve wracking thing at the same time. She never thought she’d still be playing at 50 let alone with her daughter. That is what she is most grateful for, this gift and experience. Dana continues to play rugby because she loves the sport, the teammates and friendships she has gained along the way, and the feeling you get when you take the pitch—it is unlike any other feeling—it’s indescribable. Trying to explain it, wouldn’t do it justice. Dana says “when I’m playing, nothing else matters, my mind is not elsewhere, I have no worries, stress, struggles…I’m at total peace.” 🫶🏻

We would like to introduce, Nikki. She started playing rugby in 2015 when she went to FGCU. She never believed that she would play rugby coming from a basketball and lacrosse background. She decided to play because some random girls were tabling at an involvement fair one day. Rugby gave her the adrenaline that no other sport could compare. Nikki wants to be part of this new team because she wants to grow women’s rugby in the area and have others be able to experience rugby. She has met some of her closest friends through the rugby community and once you meet someone else that plays you’re instantly connected!

Not enough women know about the game but I think if you’re open to it, you would be surprised how much fun it really is. 🏉💪🏼✨

Happy Friday eve, this is Alyssa! Last year, a friend invited her to try touch rugby with East Naples Touch. Once she started going, she was hooked. It motivated her to continue showing up like no other sport has.

She realized rugby is special because it’s more like a family and a community. We work hard and play hard. Alyssa started practicing contact rugby with the local men’s Hammerheads team since there was no local women’s group at the time. Since then, she’s had the amazing opportunity to play in a few matches and tournaments this past season with Orlando Women’s Rugby.

Alyssa would love to be a part of the Lady Hammerheads here in SWFL and grow the women’s rugby community locally. Rugby has easily become one of her passions and helped her gain confidence on and off the pitch. Alyssa started playing at 33 yrs young so no matter your age, it’s really never too late to start! Come join us and see what rugby is all about! 🙌🏼

Hi everyone, this is Whitney! She started playing rugby in 2021. She says that joining rugby at Florida State was one of the best decisions she made in college, even though she had never played before! It introduced her to an incredible community of strong, supportive women who became lifelong friends. Now that Whitney has moved back to Naples, she’s excited to find that same camaraderie and challenge by joining a local rugby team. Rugby has shown her that it’s not just about the game—it’s about the people you meet and the bonds you build on and off the field.

Rugby isn’t just a sport, it’s a community. We are looking for likeminded women who want to learn the game and be part of a badass girl gang. 🏉✨
